The Magic of Cosmetic Retorative Dentistry

Some of the most amazing advances in cosmetic dentistry involve new procedures that reduce or eliminate the pain and trauma that can be associated with a visit to the dentist. Everyone is not endued with good dental health. It is inescapable that most of us will happen upon a crooked, broken, chipped or misaligned tooth at one time or another. The most common cause for the loss of your teeth is old age. However, this can also be caused by some mishap as a result of certain other health or medical conditions. Restorative dentistry procedures are perfect for correcting your appearance and changing your looks.

The definition of Restorative Dentistry is defined as the restoration of ones natural teeth that have been decayed, damaged or lost. The method used to do this usually requires a crown or a bridge on the damaged or missing tooth. A bridge may be used to replace one or more teeth, while a crown may be constructed to repair a particular damaged tooth back to its original function and form.

If you find you need a crown, this will involve several visits to the dentist. The first visit is to make impressions of the tooth and a second visit in order to have the crown set. The use of heavy duty cement is used in order to glue the crown onto your tooth. Sometimes a third visit is required in order to insure a proper fit for your crown.

If you are told that you need a bridge, you will find that this procedure involves from two to four visits to the dentist. A fixed bridge, or what dentists refer to as a prosthesis, will fill the area of the missing tooth, also known as the ponitc. You will then be given a mild anesthetic in order to prepare the other teeth for the bridge. Once the teeth are prepared the dentist will make an impression in order to make replacement teeth for the bridge. The impressions are usually sent to a dental laboratory in order to be made, using a mixture either of metal or porcelain.

During the time that your bridge is being made, you will be fitted with a temporary bridge. Once the bridge is made, you will be required to come back in to have the temporary bridge replaced with the permanent one.

Bridges cannot be removed, so if you have one, make sure your dentist gives you a special floss to care for your gums. Regular floss cannot be used and its very hard to clean under a bridge, so this is very important in order to avoid gum disease.
